The Mounting Yard Review from Flemington, 2-Aug-25
Every form expert, punter and analyst has to review a meeting in detail in order to work out who was best suited and not suited on the day. This information is crucial when trying to combat the market for the next meeting, especially if multiple horses meet again. We’re throwing our hat in the ring and giving punters a different insight, trying to ascertain horses early in their preparations which have paraded indicating a good run could be ahead.
We’ve broken it up in to three categories, the ‘Follow, Watch and Wait’.
Follow: we'd be keen to follow next start in an ideal race. In our experience, the market is more likely to find these runners, whether that be from other form analysts or the stable themselves identifying that the horse is looking, working and generally feeling well.
Watch: sometimes these are runner in the market who perform below expectations, maybe with excuses or they could simply be inconclusive. But they can also be horses that won with everything in their favour, despite a plain or poor parade. Generally we are wary, and as a result are keen to see them parade next start before forming an opinion. If you’re doing your own form, we’d recommend being conservative in your assessments, especially if they find a race with less in their favour.
Wait: might need another run, maybe two, but one we have earmarked for this preparation when finding the right race. These can often end up being runners at odds that the market struggles to identify until they run a bold race!
